从今年6月1日开始，所有在中国申请英国学生签证的学生都将进行面试。英国大使馆教育文化处相关负责人表示，新制度不是为了增加签证难度，是为了把签证发放给那些“真正想到英国学习的学生”，对于面签，中国学生不必过多担忧。
数据显示，2012年，英国内政部在中国签发了超过57000份学生签证，比2011年增长约9%。在中国，因为学生申请的材料质量不断上升，拒签率从2010年的14%下降到2012年的2%。英国政府政策内阁部长奥利弗·莱特文表示，对于面签，中国学生无需感到害怕，此举不会影响中国学生和其他真正的国际学生很高的签证通过率。
专家表示，英国签证面试被拒签的几率非常之低，因为这不作为对签证申请者英文能力的衡量，唯一可能的被拒签原因就是面试官认为申请人材料不充分，对自己的学习计划很不明确，不是真正的学生签证入境者，而是把这个签证用来做别的用途。增设面试环节不会延长申请时间，也不会对签证通过率造成影响。
英国领事馆教育文化处相关负责人重申，新的面试体系将使防止学生签证体系被滥用，整个签证流程更加完善，这将保护目的为真正赴英学习与工作的学生和正规的高等院校、中学及学院，确保英国教育环境井然有序，以继续吸引更多优秀的中国学生。
英国留学学生签证具体要求
1、签证面试将由英国内务部工作人员通过高科技视频连接来完成(并非通过Skype，而是一个专门设计的系统)。这些工作人员都经过全面的培训，并熟知对中国申请人的要求。
2、面试语言为英语，但并不作为学生英语水平的评价标准。学生仍需针对其前往英国求学的意愿以及所选课程和就读院校等基本问题做出回答。
3、学生提交申请资料及完成生物指纹采集以后，签证中心将立即进行面试。学生无需进行一次单独的签证面试。
4、承诺该签证过程将不会影响到签证总体时间，仍为15个工作日。
5、新签证面试将于6月1日初开始执行，适用于所有Tier4申请人，没有例外。
